Well, it looks like Pownce has kicked the bucket, following Six Apart’s purchase of the micro-blogging tool.

Somehow, I knew something like this would happen…I remember when Twitter-esque sites like Pownce were popping up everywhere like zits on a teenager’s face/back. I thought to myself a lot of these sites probably won’t go far. Sadly, my predictions were right.

It’s also ironic that Winamp’s shuffled it’s way to Always Look On The Bright Side of Life by Monty Python…

I’ll be exporting my Pownce stuff to this blog soon enough. Stay tuned.

Oh, and if you’re wondering…paalam is Filipino for goodbye.

Well, it had to happen…YouTube has gone widescreen. Which is a good move, but I do believe users should have the ability to choose if they want to watch or upload clips in wide-screen or plain 4:3. Maybe they’ll work that in. That now means my widescreen clips will actually be displayed in widescreen - which is a good thing.

Anyway, I did manage to work out how to embed widescreen clips on blogs, etc…thanks Daniel McOrmand!

A brief word about the blog’s new look…

Yes, I’ve gone for another new theme for my blog, along with a proper heading image…I think it looks good, but of course, it’s all subjective.

You’ll also notice some of the pages that are listed above the header have been removed. Well, not really removed, but merged. You’ll find the Scone Weather now on the “News and Weather” page, and the “My Equipment” page now in About Me.

Finally, the new theme played around with the BDTV page, so new YouTube players have been created and added.

Not that you’d care about that, but again, that’s subjective.

New Zealand win the Rugby League World Cup

Well, the Kiwis have done what most people thought wouldn’t happen - that is, beat Australia on Australian soil to win the Rugby League World Cup. New Zealand came back from an early Australian lead to win 34-20 in front of over 50,000 people at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium - which isn’t bad, considering the wild weather that part of the world has experienced.

Naturally, as a red-blooded Aussie, I hate seeing my country lose at anything. They didn’t play that well, and I was surprised to see Darren Locyker win man of the match. But as a league fan, it’s a good thing to see someone else win it for once. This can only serve as inspiration for the next World Cup.

Those old enough to remember the days when NBN TV was just the local commercial station in Newcastle and the Hunter, and going by its Channel 3 moniker, may remember the station’s first(?) weatherman, Des Hart.

A few weeks ago, I was walking down the main street of Muswellbrook and I found a copy of a weather book written by Des himself - boy were my parents suprised to find a copy of his book floating around nowadays (not that it was an impossibility, the Upper Hunter is in the original NBN coverage area - the Rossgole Lookout translator on channel 10 was switched on in 1972. So he would’ve been seen up here).

Not a bad pick up. Mind you, weather forecasting techniques and its disemination have improved since then, and there is even a new weather book put out! It’s by current NBN weatherman Garry Youngberry, and should be available online at Weatherzone.
