Like a lot of you, I woke up this morning to hear that Michael Jackson had died this morning from a heart attack, something that a lot of us probably couldn’t see coming. Here was a performer getting ready for a sold-out season of comeback concerts in London, suddenly passing away. Still can’t believe it several hours after the fact.
He will always be remembered for the music he created, his performance style and his excellent music videos. And let’s face it, who hasn’t attempted to do the Moonwalk? Naturally, some people will remember him more for his personal life, the scandals involving young children, his eccentric behavior, and in recent years, his health and financial issues.
I believe to be truly memorable, you have to a tad crazy. Look at Van Gogh -- he cut off his ear. The Beatles -- experimented with Indian culture. Maradona -- did a lot of drugs (for someone meant to be a professional athlete, that is crazy, but that’s another story). Hopefully, what he did on stage will be remembered more than what he did off stage.
He will never be forgotten. And the two videos below will show why.
Now, don’t get me wrong – as a hot blooded male, I quite enjoy seeing nubile young actresses getting their bits out. However, that doesn’t mean they should have to work in nudity in every movie. There are some movies that don’t really require the ladies to nude up. You need more than tits’n'arse to make me want to see a movie.
While I love a wide variety of sports, including football, on a realistic level, I don’t think we’re as big a hope as people make us out to be. We should be listening to FIFA president Sepp Blatter and forgetting about 2018 – tradition suggests that you can’t have the cup away from Europe for too long, and England looks to be the front runner to get that one, so let’s consider that one a lost cause.
However, 2022 is a more realistic chance for us, given our track record of hosting big events like the Olympics and a swag of other world sporting events. But considering some of the idiots we have in both the state (especially New South Wales, with the likes of Rees, Campbell and McKay running this state into the ground) and federal governments that are involved in the bid, plus the fact that we’re in a inconvenient timezone for most other countries bar those in Australia, we may be pushing the proverbial up the hill with this one.
Not to mention some of the other countries that are also bidding for the 2022 cup. A notable one for me is the USA – they’ve got new stadiums coming out their backsides, including a shmick new stadium for the Dallas Cowboys, perfect for a World Cup final. Not to mention the Obama factor.
And finally – while it maybe the World Game, the Europeans hold the most sway in terms of money and power. They are to the World Cup and FIFA what NBC are to the Olympics. Have a think about that.
Being Australians, and given we’ve punched above our weight many times before, I reckon these are factors we could very well overcome to get 2022. That’s my tip.
Does anyone know who sang this version of “My Sunburnt Country” by Dorothea McKellar, used by CTC7 Canberra and SAS10/7 Adelaide during their nightly closedown in the 1980s? Any assistance here would be sensational.
Here’s the CTC7 version, thanks to YogieW on YouTube.
Yes folks, I am still alive, as you can tell by the weekly digest of posts to Twitter – it’s just that I’ve either been busy, uninspired, or capped (I won’t go into the last one).
Basically, here’s a brief overview of my thoughts, views and activites in the past few weeks…
I’m still unemployed (and available!)
Won our C-grade darts grand final.
Started another season of hockey. So far 1 win, 3 losses.
Flying through TAFE. Which worries me a bit.
The new PC is a few steps closer - won over $600 at the Scone Cup! All of it banked in the following days.
I do believe Channel 9 did do the right thing in dropping Matty Johns from the Footy Show, he did do the wrong thing. But I do believe it’s unfair that Matty’s the only one to be punished for the group sex incident in Christchurch – everyone else involved needs to own up ASAP.
Reni Matiua – idiot. I really do hope he gets what’s coming to him.
These two incidents (and others) might just be the beginning of the end for Cronulla, I’m afraid. I hate to see it happen, but when you have sponsors walking out and spectators not turning up, it’s not a good sign.
On a happy note, I’m delighted to see the Knights go so well. Looks like my inital concerns over Brian Smith’s plans are well and truly answered.
And – I’m also delighted to see the Jets move into the next stage of the Asian Champions League. Hopefully the form carries onto the next A-League season.
There you go. I’ll try and update the blog a bit more reguarly.
Over the past few weeks/months, people all across Australia have been recieving the federal government’s stimulus package, with most getting the full $900 on offer.
Finally, after these weeks/months of waiting, people in the Upper Hunter, including myself, finally recieved their payments. I had to check my balance on the phone to make sure I got mine, and sure enough I did.
Now, of course I’m happy to get the money, and I thank the government for giving me the $900. However…
But I do have a feeling in the back of my mind though. Surely there could’ve been a better way to get the economy back on track rather than giving everyone all these handouts. Maybe better unemployment “benefits” and more training to get those who are unemployed, like me, back into a job. Possibly more money for the elderly, they’ve been putting up with such crap in recent years. Maybe they could’ve used the money to fund the national broadband network Ruddy’s been promising everyone. Maybe they could’ve provided more money for health and education. I could go on, but you get my drift.
As I’ve said before, I’ll take the money on offer, but I hope next time they have a good think about what they’re doing, and I hope that they realise there are better ways to get Australia back on track rather than give everyone money and hope like hell they spend it.
Oh, and for the record, I’m putting my $900 towards a new computer.
YouTube has suspended my account over a clip of the Footy Show’s tribute to Paul “The Chief” Harragon, thanks to the National Rugby League having a bitch about it.
That means that in the interim, I won’t be uploading ANYTHING to YouTube. Maybe to Dailymotion, but that’s if I feel like it.
YouTube should be their best friend! It costs them nothing for US to upload videos online. And they want us to view clips on shitty Telstra-run websites.
Let’s put it this way – I will be having a good hard think before doing any of these in the future -
Renewing my Knights membership.
Purchasing Knights merchandise (I am assuming the NRL gets a cut of both of these).
Buying any News Limited product.
Visiting any News Limited website.
Subscribing to any pay TV service.
I do apologise to any of my followers that enjoyed my uploads, but I guess it’s the end of my YouTube adventures for now.
I’m a big fan of the Scary Movie series, starring the very delectable Anna Faris – and lately she’s been in some hot shoots, including this one for Arena, a classy UK mens magazine…
This weekend, I decided to take a break away from it all (and by “it all” – I do mean homelife – it is boring being unemployed), and take in an NRL game in the meantime, I chose the Sydney Central on Wentworth hotel to stay in. I did have somewhere else in mind, but I got lazy and didn’t book to the last minute.
It’s a two star hotel, and as you can expect, it’s pretty basic. All the rooms have are your bed, small TV (with no remote – at least in mine), some drawers for clothes and bedside tables. No ensuites in the basic rooms – they’re shared. No resturants, but with bars and the CBD within easy walking distance, this isn’t a problem. There is a kitchen and laundry if you need to heat up food or do some washing. There are some over-priced (in my opinion) vending machines, as well as a PC with internet access, pearched up on a counter with no seat.
The rooms themselves don’t look too swish, and could do with a paint and revamp. There is the faint wiff of cigarette smoke in the building, but it’s not that bad you want to leave post haste. At least the TVs do have acceess to a A/V outlet, so if you have a portable DVD player or a video iPod with the relevant cords, you can entertain yourself. The bathrooms and showers are a tad small, and have no shelving to put your shampoos and the like upon. A small set of Foxtel channels (Fox 8, Fox Classics, Sky News, Lifestyle Channel, Max and Discovery Channel) are available in each room as well, so if you need your news or Simpsons fix, at least you won’t go spare.
The hotel design is also rather similar to that of my old dorms (Towers at Charles Sturt University Bathurst), so it looks like a rabbit warren at times.
Despite what I’ve read, it’s not too bad to stay in. If you want somewhere cheap with minimal frills, this could be your bag. Not my first choice, but I wouldn’t say no to coming back here.
